About TVXQ

Dong Bang Shin Ki

Who are Dong Bang Shin Ki i hear you ask. Well you've come to the right page to find out that exact answer.
The meaning of Dong Bang Shin Ki (or Tong Vfang Xien Qi) is "God's Rising from the East". The band consists of five members who are all each good at dancing and singing and auditioned for stardom at SM Entertainment to achieve their goal in life. Each member of Dong Bang Shin Ki had indeed proved their talents in both singing and dancing. Thus, the mould of the korean boy band was formed.

The Dong Bang Shin Ki members were each put into different groups among peers during their training to be selected for the band, which was already named Dong Bang Shin Ki.
The first to join Dong Bang Shin Ki was Kim Junsu (김준수) who was twelve at the time; he was bought into the program through a TV show looking for a new talent. He cotinued to train for six more years and debuted under the name of Xiah Junsu (시아준수; Xiah is pronounced SHe-AH in Korean)

The next Dong Bang Shin Ki member to join was Jung Yunho (정윤호) who won his audition in a dance competition. However, he was no amateur - he had been a backup dancer and rapper for K-Pop singer Dana. His chosen stage name is U-Know Yunho (유노윤호; because when you say YunHo real fast, it sounds like U-know in English.)

Kim Jaejoong (김재중), was the third member to join and like Tamaki Nami (a Japanese singer), left his hometown to audition for SM Entertainment. Reaching his goal was tough but his hard work payed off. He debuted under the stage name Young Woong Jaejoong (영웅재중), which was the name a fortune teller fortold years before. Jaejoong is also know as Hero which is the meaning of Young Woong.

Shim Changmin (심창민), was the forth member to join and also the youngest to audition. Nevertheless, he passed the try-outs due to his amazing vocal ability. He joined the band under the stage name ChoiKang Changmin (최강창민; the English counterpart to his stage name is Max).

Six months prior to Dong Bang Shink's debut, a new member was added, Park Yoochun (박유천) who changed his name to Micky Yoochun (믹키유천). Originally, Yoochun's english name was Micky, so he chose his english name to be part of his stage name.
The band finally debuted in 2003 on the show called BoA and Birtney Spears Showcase and sang the songs Hug and O Holy Night.

For prep work, Dong Bang Shin Ki recorded a single featuring The TRAX and BoA. BoA, who was already a huge success in Korea and Japan, and The TRAX, who had also released music in Japan, made an awareness overseas about the new boy group.

Dong Bang Shin Ki has also released albums and singles in China. SM Entertainment even thought of adding a Chinese member to the group to help their popularity within the country. the management company had additionally though of splitting Dong Bang Shin Ki into two groups; one three member group consiting of U-Know, Micky and Xiah to perform in South Korea and the other group consisting of Hero, Max and the new Chinese member to perform in China. The news of adding a new Chinese member and also splitting the group upset Dong Bang Shin Ki's fans who go by the name of Cassiopeia. The fans claimed the music would only be itself with the five original singers only. SM Entertainment decided to abandon the idea due to the overflowing complaints from Cassiopeia and other fans.

On the other hand, due to Dong Bang Shin Ki's music being so popular within Korea, this bands music has been shipped to other countries within Aisa and also America and Europe.
In Korean, Dong Bang Shin Ki have released two albums (Tri-Angle, 2004 and Rising Sun, 2005) and also a Christmas album (The Christmas Gift from TVXQ, 2004). The group has also released a project album featuring other singers from SM Entertainment which was called SM Town (Summer Vacation, 2004). They have also released three singles (Hug, 2004; The Way U Are, 2004; and Hi Ya Ya, 2005)
